There is also the operating programs and drivers for my HP Photosmart 2575 printer which still works well, and a raft of WinXP and DOS-based programs for file searches, recovery, conversion, diagnostics and all the other tasks that one collects utilities for over the years. DOC files which can then be read by modern Excel and Word, but the prospect of individually re-saving thousands of files is daunting. Lotus can convert its 123 and Wordpro files to MS Office 2000.
The main applications I want to continue to use because of the mass of files in use (or archive) made with them, are (a) Lotus Smart Suite Release 9.7 (of which Lotus 123 and Wordpro are essential), ( MS Office 2000, and © Intuit's Quicken 2002 De Luxe, an accounting database holding my accounts back to 1992 (those pre-2002 were made with the DOS version). After some 15 years of exemplary service from MS Windows XP Pro, SP 3, my HDD is failing and regretfully I must now replace the PC.
